Nearly 3 Billion views
Two years after its release, “See you again” overtakes Psy dance song Gangnam Style.
The music video, a tribute to the late Paul Walker showing some scenes from his role in the Fast and the Furious movies, has garnered more than 2,900,575,000 views as at 3 a.m, 12th July 2017.
Gangnam Style held the title of the most-watched video on youtube previously, the first video to pass the one billion mark in just a few months after it was released in 2012, “See you again” has been a slow burner, arriving at this volume of views at a slower rate than Gangnam Style.
The fusion of two different genres may have made it appeal to wider listening, the fast and furious brand also provided a readymade fans, the emotional message and the story it told, may have made it enduring which may explain the continued viewership.
Justin Bieber’s “Sorry”, Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” have all racked up over 2.5b views.
