The transfer window closes on Thursday 31st August 17, Arsenal football club is currently overstocked but desperately lacking qualities all over the field.
The manager spent the whole of the pre-season studying the market and attempting a squad trimming exercise, the end result of which means the club has yet to reinforce the squad with quality players that will enable them compete in all fronts and improve on their last season league finish.
The 25-man rule introduced this season means Arsene Wenger still need to trim his squad to 25 players, to include compulsory eight homegrown.
Wenger has said he needs to sell before buying, with six days to the end of the transfer window, this is a big ask to trim a squad of 34 to 25 players, bearing in mind that Arsenal still lack qualities required to compete and not fall short as it is now customary of the club.
Without a doubt, the club will be working behind close doors to offload or loan some of these players, but one wonders what has been done since July when the window opened since the 25-man rule was not set overnight.
The difficulty in offloading some players also speaks volume of the deficiency in the Arsenal model, although Wenger defended this by saying “players overstocking is not only Arsenal’s problem, other teams have too many players, that is why they are not buying”.
At the moment, Arsenal is facing three major dilemma (A) The difficulties in offloading dead-wood players (B) The possibilities of losing Sanchez and Oxlade-Chamberlain to Man City and Chelsea respectively before window closes (C) Inadequate time to identify, negotiate and conclude a deal in the remainder of the time left in the window.
