Calum Chambers and Jack Wilshere will be involved
Francis Coquelin and Danny Welbeck out until after the next International Break in November
Ozil Back in training but will still be out against Doncaster
Manager Arsene Wenger has provided updates on the team likely to face Doncaster in the Carabao cup, as well as updates on the injured players.
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil who missed the clash against Chelsea due to injury will sit out the match against Doncaster. In his absence, Alex Iwobi and Aaron Ramsay combined very well to neutralise the threat from the middle, many have attributed Arsenal offensive play to Ozil’s absence.
However, Ozil’s absence was not due to tactical change by Wenger but due to a knee injury sustained by the midfielder. The injury is not serious enough to keep him away for that long, as he is back in training and so should be available for the next game against West Brom.
CALUM CHAMBERS & JACK WILSHERE:
Both Jack Wilshere and Calum Chambers have seen very limited chances this season. Jack Wilshere is reported to be unhappy as a result and will be pushing for a move in January if his situation did not change. However, the Carabao Cup provides Jack Wilshere with the opportunity to stake his claim for a regular place in the team.
Calum Chambers who had a failed bid to move to Crystal Palace during the transfer window also have seen his chances reduce due to the presence of Mustafi, he has not featured in a Premier League this season but Wenger has confirmed he will be featuring in the cup.
FRANCIS COQUELIN AND DANNY WELBECK:
The most significant update y Wenger is not on the players that will feature but on the players that will be sidelined for some time due to injury.
Danny Welbeck sustained a groin injury in the match against Chelsea, it has now been confirmed that Arsenal will have to do without him until after the international break.
The news will not be welcomed by Manager Gareth Southgate but most importantly to Arsenal fans. Welbeck is seen as a hard worker and a good team player who provide Arsenal with a viable option up front.
Welbeck have started the season brilliantly and is currently Arsenal top scorer with 3 goals and so a lengthy injury layoff will deplete Arsenal.
However, Welbeck’s injury may provide Wenger the opportunity to try out the combination of Lacazette and Sanchez.
Francis Coquelin limped off during the game against Bournemouth after coming in as a sub, his injury was initially thought to be a minor one that should not take more than a week for him to return, Wenger’s update now suggests he will not be coming back that quick.
Arsenal will be able to cope alright in his absence.
