REVEALED: Arsenal Signed Sanogo ahead of Griezmann

Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move.

The revelation that Arsenal nearly signs Antoine Griezemann will not come as a surprise to fans and observers.

Arsenal has a history of almost signing players that have gone on to become great players in their subsequent careers.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kylian Mbappe and even Harry Kane to mention but few.

The latest revelation of the player to join that illustrious list of “almost Arsenal players” is Atletico¬†Madrid superstar Antoine Griezman.

He made the disclosure in his autobiography.

Antoine Griezmann was wanted by Arsenal when he was at Real Sociedad but a bid never materialised, he is now one of the most sort after players in Europe

”I waited, I waited, and I kept waiting. When there was no news, Eric called Grimandi, who said that the manager was still interested in me [and] to keep waiting,
Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move. I don’t like to be told something and for it not to happen. So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him “Forget it, after the blow they gave us”

The same transfer window, Arsenal went on to sign Mesut Ozil and Yaya Sanogo, as well as seeing a £40m Luiz Suarez bid turned down by Liverpool.

It is unclear why Arsenal pulled out of the deal to sign Griezmann from Real Sociedad, but the last minute signing of Ozil may have put a stop to Griezemann becoming an Arsenal player.

Yaya Sanogo played 21 times for Auxerre and scored 11 goals in 3 years but never scored any competitive goal for Arsenal

The Luiz Suarez bid and subsequent Sanogo signing suggest Wenger was keen to bring in a striker, it can then be deducted that Wenger decided to buy Sanogo from Auxerre instead of Griezmann.

The rest they say is history.
